What to plant now
Okra, southern peas, sweet potato slips, and Malabar spinach all thrive in the heat. Get a second round of sweet corn in, and toward the end of the month, start your fall tomato transplants.
What to do now
Water deeply and consistently — drip irrigation is worth it. Mulch to hold moisture, stay ahead of weeds, scout daily for squash bugs and hornworms, and give tomatoes some afternoon shade.
What to harvest
Tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and zucchini, beans, the last of the onions, early potatoes, and all the herbs you can use.
